By Jony Mozen

For a country to stand and to protect its sovereignty, it must have a well-equipped army and infrastructure that can be used to repel the enemy in case of an attack. The wars that were fought in the past made the government of that day to come up with great structures, which are still standing up to this day. The article below will unveil the history Fort Myers Florida has as recorded.

This historic site was built in the city of Florida. According to the history of Fort Myers, the native Indians wanted to sojourn in that location. This was a good site for the protection of that location from constant aggression from the Indians and strategic in driving them out. This location was also good for business since the main source of transport for goods was carried out via the sea. Therefore, it was a suitable place.

American soldiers erected the fortress. This was a bold move in which a lot of money was invested in it. This was a costly strategy but it paid off. The mission for the soldiers was to evict all the Indian natives living around that area. Therefore, to establish the American authority in that area permanently, they had to stay in that area for a while and a stronghold was needed for that purpose.

The initial plan for building this masterpiece was to act as a base for the American army personnel in their campaign against the red Indians. For the American soldiers to end the aggression of the Indians permanently, they had to camp in their territory first. However, to fight the war effectively they needed a place to stay and the garrison was built to facilitate the shelter.

Apart from the beneficiaries of this building, there are those who faced difficult circumstances after its construction was completed. The Indians were not too happy with the results the garrison generated against them. It was a disadvantage to them while fighting because they could not carry out ambushes against the American soldiers. Therefore, they failed in defending their territory and had to leave.

The position of the garrison was strategic in building trade within that area. Therefore, one most interesting and beneficial things was the ability to increase the trade in the region by bringing in goods from other continents. This is because the fortress was situated near the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Ocean was prone to trade especially the slave trade, which was lucrative.

For the stronghold to be maintained in its original form there was a group of people responsible in ensuring that its strength is maintained. Every soldier understood the importance of the garrison because it protected their lives from attacks. The commander in charge of the base was responsible in taking good care of the castle and every equipment in it.

The climate of the region is also a factor that made it a suitable place of residence. Understand that many settlers came from very cold places in Europe. However, in this area, there is the tropical savannah climate. The temperatures in this place are averagely eighteen degrees Celsius. There is also sufficient rainfall and short but warm winters.
